In collaboration w. Tijmen Teunissen
Premiere: March 2026, currently open for bookings
An intimate, physical, and visually rich performance about love in all its rawness — in all its facets, and the complete surrender it demands. A search for radical closeness, despite the vulnerability it requires, even if that means you might not come out unscathed.
The Hague/Rotterdam-based creators Claire Hermans and Tijmen Teunissen craft a visual game of attraction and repulsion. An intimate, sensory experience where longing and confrontation are felt simultaneously.
Step into a world where audience and performers are part of one large, dynamic playing field. In this shared space, they form a whole that influences one another — setting things in motion, or bringing them to a standstill. Here, closeness becomes tangible — as something both comforting and confronting.

Role: dancer, actress

‘Het Houten Huis is the visual music theatre company of the North. Based in Groningen, we create performances that are seen throughout the country and far beyond its borders. Our house symbolizes life itself — where things sometimes creak and groan, or an unexpected guest might drop by. We are always building and refining stories, imagination, and musicality.’

More info & bookingsRole: maker + actress, singer
In collaboration w. Tijmen Teunissen
Premiere: January 2025, 2024, 2023, currently touring
Claire works with Plan d- since 2018, performing in several productions. Since 2023 she is active as a maker within the dance theatre company as well. Each year, Plan d- realizes a new and surprising performance specially made for the ‘Week van de Lentekriebels’. ‘Het Grote(r) Worden’, ‘Klik’ and ‘Ongezouten’ are created by Claire Hermans and Tijmen Teunissen and together they choreograph dance, compose music, write texts and create costume and the scenography for these works. The works are also performed by Tijmen and Claire and shown at schools and theatres. All three works are currently touring. The performances are bookable on their own, or as a trilogy.
‘Het Grote(r) Worden’ 10+
Sweat, growing pains, and embarrassing moments. Puberty. You grow out of your clothes, get hair in places you never expected, sweat like crazy, and suddenly feel completely different from the day before. All kinds of things are happening in your body and mind – and no one can quite explain how it all works.
In Het Grote(r) worden, Tijmen and Claire embark on a journey through the chaos of puberty. They explore the awkward stuff and the big questions – from wet dreams and getting your first period to emotions that swing from "who cares" to "help, I’m falling apart." But they do it all with humor, dance, live singing, and a surprising stain quiz!
‘Klik’
‘Online flirting — snapping each other, hearts, flirty messages, and of course: selfies. But is it okay to just send someone a photo of your elbow or your stomach? Let’s talk about what is and isn’t acceptable, about consent and how to get it. Plus, how do you respond if you unexpectedly receive such a photo?
Online shaming and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images can have serious consequences, especially for young people. While it’s often fun and exciting, and seen by many as a normal way of flirting, it’s important to know where the boundaries lie.’
‘Ongezouten’
‘To act or to hold back? How do you push someone across the line in the game of attraction and rejection? The dancers teeter on the edge, discovering both their own boundaries and those of the other. How salty do you like it?
In ‘Ongezouten’ the dancers playfully explore the untamed edges of a budding crush. They embark on a journey into the unknown, where a leap of excitement and openness can suddenly turn into an impossible tangle.’
Claire Hermans & Tijmen Teunissen | ‘Plastic Life’
More info & bookingsRole: maker + dancer
In collaboration w. Tijmen Teunissen
Premiere: October 2024, currently touring
Plastic Life starting off with research involving many plastic bags. From there, a short performance was born and shown at Come Together Festival by Nicole Beutler. Post-Covid Claire Hermans and Tijmen Teunissen made this piece into a full-length performance which premiered in 2024 at Korzo Theatre. ‘Plastic Life’ is currently touring.
‘Plastic Life is a ritualistic embodiment of our consumption; it delves into the core of our modern existence, where life is intertwined with the presence of plastic.
Plastic Life explores, using plastic bags as both medium and metaphor, the duality of this ubiquitous material—artificial yet malleable. We move through the plastic-saturated landscape, question our relationship with plastic, and contemplate the plasticity of our response to an impending climate crisis. Gradually, the material changes; the plastic, initially playful and light, and the movement language as well. Both transform into a dominant mass, assuming threatening forms.’
Rogier Roeters/Verkadefabriek | ‘DeRealisatieShow’
Watch trailerRole: dancer, actress
Premiere: April 2024, touring in 2025/’26/’27
After the great success of showing the result of a two-week residency, Rogier Roeters created – in collaborations with the performers – a longer version of the work for Festival Boulevard. With five sold out performances, ‘DeRealisatieShow’ became a festival hit. De Verkadefabriek and Rogier Roeters join forces and realize a full-length version of the performance, which will tour at festivals and theaters. Claire joins this all-female cast, fulfilling the role of a contemporary dancer among a ballerina and an actress.
‘Welcome to the world of Rogier Roeters, where shame, doubt, desire, and loneliness are mercilessly exposed. In The ‘DeRealisationShow’, his distinctive drawings merge with costume design, illusions, dance, and music to form a mosaic of short, associative scenes. A rollercoaster of emotions, where the line between reality and derealisation increasingly blurs.
Like a live Instagram feed full of raw, honest moments, Rogier pulls you into his universe. With a cast of versatile performers — Jaya Celeste, Sofieke de Kater, and Claire Hermans — and a dynamic sound design by Guyllaume Wibowo, this performance promises to be a unique theatrical experience. Accessible, innovative, and confronting.’

Plan d-/Andreas Denk | ‘Zwerfhonden’ 8+
Role: dancer, singer
Premiere: October 2023
Claire works with Plan d- since 2018, performing in several productions of the dance theatre company. In the compositons, created by Wiebe Gotink, she sings the mezzo voice. In ‘Zwerfhonden’ the cast consist of hearing and deaf performers and sign language in integrated in the piece.
‘Zwerfhonden’ is an exciting, surrealistic dance performance including polyphonic barking and growling dogs, choruses, arias and duets. A performance in which dance and singing appear on stage as equal partners and the horse meat flies through the air.
How do we deal with our feelings of revenge and lack of empathy. How can we tame our ego for the greater good and how do we embrace the people who are “different”.
In this performance the accessibility for those with disabilities is integrated in the creative process.’
Plan d- | ‘AU!’ 4+
More info & bookingsRole: dancer, singer, actress
Premiere: Augustus 2023, currently touring
Claire works with Plan d- since 2018, performing in several productions of the dance theatre company. AU! Is restaged with a new cast after its original premiere in 2010. Claire plays a sturdy young girl, who aspires to be a wolf. She dances, sings and acts in the performance, which is staged in theatres and outdoors. AU! Is currently touring.
‘AU! shows that life isn’t always as sweet as roses, but can be very painful as well. And how terrible is the pain when you fall off your bike, or topple from the jungle gym, or you see your best friend walking hand in hand with another! What do you do with this pain, and how do you find comfort and a helping hand to get you back up on your feet again?
This delightful and dynamic performance shows through a funny and moving perspective the many different ways life can cause pain, how people experience this pain, and offers solutions for helping to ease it. Pain can be helpful – it makes you stronger and is not necessarily something to be afraid of. Sometimes the best thing to do is to scream out loud from the pain. OW! This brings relief and gives you the strength to stand up again. And of course, a little bit of sympathy goes a long way too! A kiss on the knee, a pat on the cheek and a little song before you go to sleep… you know then that everything will be all right because after all, doesn’t time heal all wounds?’
ITA/Julidans, Anna Källblad en Helena Bystrom | ‘City Horses’
Role: dancer
Premiere: Juli 2023
Claire was one of the dancers in this performance in the public space at Julidans, in Amsterdam. Travelling through the city, embodying the qualities of a horse.
‘Like a herd of wild horses passing by Amsterdam’s monumental landmarks. In every Western city you visit, they rise up: majestic sculptures of war-driven men — emperors, kings, or soldiers — stoically gazing into the distance from the backs of powerful stallions. Their histories, echoes from a colonial past, are a fixed part of our shared spaces and are passed down to future generations as such.
But where are the other stories in the city of today?’
ITA/Wim Vandekeybus | ‘Bloedbruiloft’
Role: dancer
Premiere: April 2023
Claire is one of the six dancers performing in the film. The moving images are a big part of the performance and shown on a massive screen which is integrated in the scenography.
‘Blood Wedding is directed by the internationally renowned Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus. Blood Wedding is teeming with themes that have cropped up in Vandekeybus his creations for decades: death, risk and freedom. Lorca mixes high theatricality with naivety, primitivism and cruelty. He digs into the unconscious of his characters.‘
HONK | ‘Periferie van een toekomst’
Role: maker + dancer, singer, actress
September 2022
HONK was created by Beaudil Elzenga, Boudewijn Ruigrok, Tijmen Teunissen, Jade Olieberg and Claire Hermans. The strength of HONK lies in the diverse expertise of its five creators, who are active in the dance, music and theatre field. With performers/makers from a wide range of backgrounds, it’s possible to draw from various forms of human expression. This allows exploration of subjects from multiple angles, leading to a multifaceted performance in which the various disciplines complement and enrich one another. HONK was selected to pitch ‘Periferie van een toekomst’ for Nieuwkomers/Orkater and for the Werkplaats Walhalla Pitch. The idea was met with great enthousiasm by Titus Tiel Groenestege, but unfortunately never unfolded to a performance.
‘Inside an interior, cut off from the outside world, four people live together. They don’t leave — something is holding them back. Words seem to carry a different meaning here, and daily routines take on strange, unexpected turns. By isolating themselves from the world around them, they appear to be creating a controlled utopia — but the outside world inevitably seeps in, and human impulses unavoidably begin to surface. What happens when not everything can be controlled?’
Beaudil Elzenga | ‘Over Nachten ’6+
Role: actress, singer, dancer
Premiere: May 2022
In ‘Over Nachten’ Claire plays a mystic creature who appears in Jakob’s bedroom at night and takes him on all kinds of adventures. She also takes on the roles of the beings Jakob encounters in these adventurous dreams. She dives into the characters of a gorging rat, the emperor of China, a French chef and a stork. The parts Claire plays require physical acting, and she applies her dance expertise to give these roles form and depth. In the performance, she also sings, with Jakob de Groot—who also composed the music for the show—playing her counterpart. The text is written by David Geysen.
‘Over Nachten’ is based on the book ‘Wonderlijke Nachten’ by Godfried Bomans. The boy, Jakob, joins a little creature that appears in his dreams on many adventures. During these nocturnal journeys, they encounter remarkable figures. ‘Over Nachten’ is a musical performance about daily habits that magically turn into the wildest adventures.’

As a long-term dancer with the company, Claire is able to work in alignment with the choreographers' vision and provides support. She is point of contact, rehearsal director and guided the amateur dancers during the performances.
‘Dance and puppetry meet at the official opening ceremony of Amare. Little Amal will visit Den Haag for this special occasion. The towering puppet, who represents a 10-year-old refugee girl who is searching for her mother, having made a journey from the Turkish-Syrian border to the United Kingdom is a key figure at the ceremony. Ira Judkovskaja, former artistic director of the Frisian theater company Tryater. directs the performance. The choreography is in the hands of Meyer-Chaffaud Dance Company and puppetry is performed by Cat Smits.’
Erik Kaiel | ‘Murikafication’
Role: dancer
August 2021
Claire performed in this work as a substitute for another dancer.
‘Murikamification is a performance in public space, characteristic of Erik Kaiel’s unique style. Whether it’s on a tram in Montreal, in the mountains of Africa, or the streets of Europe, his performers invite audiences to dream globally in everyday places.
This performance invites the audience into a daydream that unfolds before their eyes. Using elements of magic and inspired by the surreal stories of Haruki Murakami, Kaiel creates an absurdist experience.
Each version of Murikamification surprises a diverse and curious audience in the streets of their own city.’
Meyer-Chaffaud | ‘Soul#4 Showtime’
Watch trailerRole: dancer
Premiere: October 2020
Claire has been a long-term dancer of Meyer-Chaffaud dance company. She entered as an intern and stayed with the company for four years. During those years Choreograhers duo Jerome Meyer and Isabelle Chaffaud worked on the Soul tetralogy. For this final piece of the four-part-project she was part of the cast during the rehearsals, but stepped out as a dancer because she was expected twins. She stayed involved during the creative process and performances.
‘In our SOUL series, we’ve been researching the nature of humankind. In the earlier performances, we have involved close physical participations of the audience and our work has been reaching moments of climax when audience and performers bonded together. Boundaries disappeared, when individuals came together both emotionally and physically to embrace differences; they felt like one. With the 1,5 m regulation still in place, those close physical participations will not be part of the final piece. But together with our dancers we dive into the essence of those previous contacts, and will allow you – our audience – through raw and poetic dance, to experience what ‘being together’ and ‘connection’ can mean. And perhaps this will lead to an answer to the fascinating question: What are the visible and invisible strings that unite us?’

Mark Fell | ‘Hominim’
Role: performer
Premiere: April 2019
Claire, alongside Yulia Kalinchencko, performed ‘Hominim’ at Rewire Festival, Den Haag. Later it was also staged at Kunsthall Bergen in Norway.
‘Hominin’ constructs and investigates procedural relationships between technical and non-technical elements. Drawing on Karen Barad’s agential realism and the “open-ended, entangled material practices” within which the “social and the scientific are co-constituted”, ‘Hominin’s’ distinctive non-unilinear topology is based upon algorithmic approaches to temporal-structures and emerged from a series of exploratory workshop sessions called “Permutations” that Fell recently delivered in Japan and Europe.’
Meyer-Chaffaud | ‘Soul#3 Co-creation’
Role: dancer, actress
Premiere: May 2018
Claire has been a long-term dancer of Meyer-Chaffaud dance company. She entered as an intern and stayed with the company for four years. For this third piece of the four-part-project she was part of the cast and performed besides her dancing, also text written by Hans van der Boom.
‘In the surprising SOUL #3 Co-creation, the choreographers hold a magnifying glass to the dynamics of co-creating a performance. What exactly happens when people enter a creation process together? Isabelle and Jérôme’s personal experiences as dancers, as a couple and as a choreographers-duo formed the inspiration for Hans van den Boom’s performance text. Whether it is the four powerful dancers, the often recognizable outpourings and reflections or- for those who like to experience this – the interactive element: SOUL # 3 Co-Creation is an intimate, touching performance.’

Among them are David Krugel (who danced with the former Nederlands Dans Theater 3) and Claire Hermans (nominee for the Piket Art Prizes 2017) and Kinda Gozo (winner of Piket Art Prizes 2018).’

Grace Schwindt | ‘Opera & Steel’
Role: acrobat (handbalancing)
Premiere: March 2018
Alongside a marimba player, a dancer and an actor, Claire performes her handbalancing. Dressed in a red glitter suit with fins, suggesting a water creature she takes on different forms. Sitting or on upside down, balancing on her hands. Still, like a statue. The performance was restaged at Something Raw Festival in Frascati, where Claire took on the part of acrobat.
‘The performance investigates the relationship between morality and capitalism. Corporations have increasing control over the market, with less and less interference by the state or laws. Economic laws, which are supposed to protect society, are disappearing. They mutate into regulations that corporations can freely interpret and often define. The epistemological distinction between market and society is being dissolved. Businesses make moral decisions on the basis of the logic of the market and to guarantee maximum profit. Morality has been co- opted into the market, becoming a commodity that is produced, distributed, and consumed.’

American composer David Dramm composed the music for this production.
‘Floris is a true hero. He takes you back to a time of brave knights, grueling journeys, and towering castles. The performance is inspired by the life of Floris V, who became Count of Holland at the age of twelve and went down in history as a true Dutch knightly hero.
Two dancers, two musicians, and a magician bring the remarkable tale of this important Dutch ruler to life as a modern and magical fairytale. A thrilling and beautiful journey filled with brave adventures, turbulent uprisings, and proud victories.
The life of Floris unfolds during a gripping period in Dutch history — a time when courage and heroism, the futility of revenge, finding your inner strength, and making your dreams come true all played a role.’
